in an era when any old cause seems to get a day or a week or a greeting card, one day to commemorate the worst event of the 20th century is not too much to ask for.
it is right not to just be about Jews but to remember the too many large scale killing epidemics in the (forlorn) hope they wont re-occur.

Not sure what your point is. Once the Communists had handed the Nationalist Socialists power their (the Nazi's) first move was to round up undesirables, put them in camps and starve them to death or otherwise kill them. This way they removed all opposition and kept the population in line. It might have even served to soften the wider population up to the notion killing undesirables in camps on an industrial scale.
I'm not saying what happened to the Jews and others equates to what happened to the Socialists, and then others, but it's not far fetched to suggest it progressed from there. They established their MO when they murdered 10's of thousands of their political opponents. Socialists, trade unionists and conservatives.

Good prog' on TV last weekend about one of the surviving twins that Josef Mengeles used to experiment on ... how she went to that trial of the 93 year old Nazi book keeper from Auschwitz and how she met up with him to tell him that she forgave him along with all the Nazis... or then again by Milly's outlook she was probably thanking him for keeping the ovens full and keeping the typhus away...??

The truth about never forgetting is that it is just a saying, a front even, if we never forget then why does it all still happen today ?, and believe me it all still happens, in fact the ones who shout do not forget the loudest are the ones who do not give two shits about the evils that go on in the world today.
The hate toward Jews was worldwide at one point they were then replaced by Communism and now that is done it has moved on to Muslims who knows who will be next.
The quicker we all realise that life is just a game and accept it as such the more in tune we will be to what is to come.
